Moving: Relating to or involved in a transfer of furnishings from one location to another:

So, I've moved back in with my parents for a brief stint. I can't shake this feeling that I am a loser in some sort of way. I keep telling myself it's for the best and it's only until I finish LPN school. Although those words are true my thoughts still come back to the same conclusion. I am a 27 year old man living at home with his parents. Ugh!

It's only for a few months...I'm counting the days... 240 give or take..

Boys over Flowers

I've started watching the TV show boys over flowers. I'm not sure what to think just yet. I have only watched the first two episodes. I have found it quite funny at times though.

Synopsis:

"The ‘Iconic Love Story’ for those who wish to stay young at heart forever!
‘Boys over Flowers’ is the highly anticipated remake of the famous Japanese comic book series. Jan-di, the Heroine, is the poor but bright girl who has a strong sense of justice and full of vitality. She transfers to an exclusive high school where only the rich go. In there, she encounters with the four rich and quirky boys and experiences love and friendship.
The storyline illustrates the supreme fantasy that a drama can bring out the most. Each of us probably has an experience of admiring or dreaming of something. The drama ‘Boys over Flowers’ is the concentration of the admirations."

LPN School

At the end of this month I will have completed my first semester of LPN School, time is flying by. It seems like just last month I was still working on getting all my paper work in to get accepted to LPN School.

The second semester is when I will actually be getting hands on experience through the use of clinicals at various hospitals. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. People who have completed the program say that second semester is the toughest.

I'm not concerned though. I've made it this far not stressing and taking everything one day at a time.

Shinjuku Incident

I watched Shinjuk Incident a few days ago and enjoyed it tremendously. This is the first movie starring Jackie Chan that I have seen where he isn't just a martial arts expert that comes to save the day. Although there are a few incidents that resemble a typical Jackie Chan movie. He does become the Chinese immigrants savior like he is often portrayed in his movies. Yet, as I stated earlier I enjoy this movie and definitely recommend it if you have not had the chance to see it.

Synopsis:

"In the early 1990s, a tractor mechanic from a northen countryside in China nicknamed Steelhead (Jackie Chan), enters Japan illegally in search of his fiancée, Xiu Xiu (Xu Jinglei). Steelhead and a bunch of other illegal immigrants came by a freighter that incidentally sunk before reaching the harbor. A local Japanese policeman discovered them and all the immigrants ran for their lives. Steelhead managed to steal some dry clothes and tracked down his brother Jie (Daniel Wu) for help. Jie helped provide food and shelter for Steelhead while looking for a job in between searching for Xiu Xiu. Jie introduced fellow Chinese immigrants and each of them helped Steelhead by showing him trades of the underworld to survive and make a living."

G.M. Volt

"Fritz Henderson, chief executive of General Motors, announces that the Volt, the company’s electric car scheduled to be released in 2011, will get at least 230 miles per gallon."

Yeah right! I'll believe that crap when I see it. If it's true then we know the car companies have been sitting on this technology for awhile and it's all been a big conspiracy between the auto makers and oil companies.

The King and the Clown

I watched The King and the Clown this past weekend. I enjoyed this film quite a bit but I was rather shocked to see much of the film had a homosexual undertone something I was not expecting. Nonetheless, it was a very well made film that kept my interest ever step of the way.

Synopsis:

"Set in the early 16th century during the reign of King Yeonsan, two male street clowns and tightrope walkers, Jangsaeng (Gam Wu-seong) and Gonggil (Lee Jun Ki), are part of an entertainer troupe. Their manager prostitutes the beautiful Gonggil to rich customers, and Jangsaeng sickens of this practice. After Gonggil kills the manager in defense of Jangsaeng, the pair flees to Seoul, where they form a new group with three other street performers. Together the group comes up with a skit mocking some members of the Royal Court, including the king and his new concubine Jang Noksu. After they are arrested for treason, Jangsaeng makes a deal with Choseon, who turns out to be one of the King's servants, to either make the king laugh at their skit or to be executed. "

The Naked Kitchen

The Naked Kitchen was not what I expected in the least. I expected more drama/heartbreak from this film based on the film's premise. Alas all I received from this movie was a husband who stayed in denial for the majority of the film and a naive wife who couldn't make a decision between her husband whom was her childhood sweetheart and a stranger she diddled in an art gallery. The ending was an open-ended one and I assume it's meant to be left up to the imagination of the viewer.

I would have preferred it if the husband had killed his wife's lover, chopped him up, and served him in his restaurant. Now that would have been a great ending.

I didn't particularly enjoy this movie. Maybe I will watch it again to see if I missed something.

Synopsis:

"Today is Mo-rae and Sang-in’s one-year wedding anniversary. After a busy morning preparing for the celebration, Mo-rae goes to an art gallery to find a gift for Sang-in. At the gallery, she meets a complete stranger and the two unexpectedly have sex. Mo-rae returns home feeling anxious and guilty about the incident and cannot help but confess it to Sang-in. That night, a visitor arrives at their house; Du-rae, who came from Paris to help Sang-in with his new business. To Mo-rae’s shock, he is the man from the gallery. He temporarily lives with the couple in their house and a risky love triangle begins."

My Boss, My Hero

This past weekend I had the opportunity to watch the Korean movie My Boss, My Hero. This is a comedy that is not meant to be taken seriously. Yet, I feel I went into this movie with the wrong expectations. I expected a drama/action movie but instead watched a hokie film filled with jokes referencing Korean culture that I am not familiar with. All in all I felt it was a good movie and I plan on watching the sequel My Boss, My Teacher.

"As the boss of a small gang, KYE Du-shik had gotten by on his wits and bare knuckles for the past ten years. That was soon to change. Held back from promotion within the ranks due to his lack of education, Du-shik heads back to school on the order of a superior gang leader. His return is not without its complications. Intimidation dealt out by a high school hoodlum, a mischievous female student posing problems with her powerful parents relenting to her every wish, and a school that is out of control are but a few of the hazards that lay in the path of Du-shik’s education. The road is not so smooth for our hero. Although his classmates are infected by his charismatic personality and charm, will they stand by him when he most needs it? Eventually he sets out to avenge the wrongdoings of a corrupt school system. He may succeed, but will he graduate?"

Boondocks Season 3 !

I can't wait for Boondocks Season 3 to begin!

Oh yeah, I kicked ass on my Medical-Surgical exam!

Study!

I've been studying all night and I feel like a zombie! This Medical-Surgical class is kicking my ass. I've been making low 80's on my tests so far but I need high 90's! This class involves a lot of critical thinking and often times test questions will be multiple choice with the option of 1 of 4 possible answers. Two of the answers will make no sense and the other two could possibly be the answer but we have to pick the "most right" answer. Needless to say that makes test taking rather difficult.

Anyway, sometimes during lecture I feel like I'm on an episode of House. The instructor will throw out hypothetical situations and we will have to come up with a nursing diagnosis or intervention to solve the problem.

I'm all over the place tonight and I'll probably wake up in the morning and wonder what I was babbling about on my blog last night.

Well, here's to me acing my Med-Surg exam tomorrow!

I know this is old news but it's hilarious to me. 44 people charged including 3 New Jersey Mayors, 2 state assemblymen and 5 Rabbis involved in a huge corruption scandal spanning from New York to Israel, involving political bribes, extortion, money-laundering and even organ trafficking. Taegukgi (Brotherhood)

I finally got to a film on my original list. The movie entitled Tageguki. This was an AMAZING movie! I am already a tremendous fan of historical war movies and this film allowed me to view the Korean War through the eyes of South Korean soldiers. This film depicts the horrors of war, how it tears families apart and how war changes people as seen with the transformation of Jin-tae Lee. It also shows the sacrifices families often make for one another and the strong bond shared by brothers.

"In 1950, in South Korea, the shoe-shiner Jin-tae Lee and his eighteen years old student brother Jin-seok Lee form a poor but happy family with their mother, Jin-tae's fiancé Young-shin Kim and her young sisters. Jin-tae and his mother are tough workers, who sacrifice themselves to send Jin-seok to the university. When North Korea invades the South, the family escapes to a relative's house in the country, but along their journey, Jin-seok is forced to join the army to fight in the front, and Jin-tae enlists too to protect his young brother. The commander promises Jin-tae that if he gets a medal he would release his brother, and Jin-tae becomes the braver soldier in the company. Along the bloody war between brothers, the relationship of Jin-seok with his older brother deteriorates leading to a dramatic and tragic end.

A group of Korean archeologists find a skeleton and identify it as Lee Jin-Seok. But Lee Jin-Seok is still alive and he is now an old man. It is his brother Jin-Tae who went missing in the Korean War. We travel from the present to 1950, when the Korean War started. Jin-Seok and Jin-Tae, Jin-Seok's brother, are young men who suddenly find themselves catapulted into a bloody world so different from their quiet, rural lives. As the war progresses, the war begins to poison Jin-Tae's mind. Jin-Seok is lost when he finds that he no longer knows who his brother is"

My Little Bride

I decided to venture into the Korean, romantic comedy film genre again. It appears I enjoy Korean romantic comedies the most. I came across this film after searching for more films that were similar to My Sassy Girl, a film that I thoroughly enjoyed. My Little Bride is a fantastic movie that contains all the elements of a successful romantic comedy. I particular enjoyed how the filmed handled the concept of sex and that his bride was only 15 years old. The film continually touched on that fact and allowed the viewer to not be uncomfortable. I was not disappointed by this film and I recommend it if your a fan of Korean romantic comedies.

"Boeun (Moon Geun Young) is an ordinary high school girl who worries about grades and has a crush on her school's baseball team ace, Jungwoo. One day, Boeun's grandfather orders her to marry Sangmin (Kim Rae Won) because of a pact he made with Sangmin's grandfather during the Korean War. Despite the grandchildren's opposition, they are forced to marry because of Boeun's grandfather's strong influence. Boeun's undercover married life begins: She pretends that she doesn't have a husband and starts dating Jungwoo. Boeun believes that she can manage both men and live a double life. Everything goes smoothly until Sangmin visits Boeun's school as a student teacher.

This movie is the Korean version of a 2002 Hong Kong movie called My Wife is 18 starring Charlene Choi and Ekin Cheng."

Nothing on my mind....

I currently have nothing on my mind but yet a multitude of things at the same time. I'm not certain of the possibility of this occurrence actually happening but it appears it is happening to me.

I'm still searching for my focus that I have seem to have misplaced. However I know what I must do to find it.

Yet, on a lighter note, I am completely content with the way things are going for the moment. I have taken a more positive outlook on life and come to expect the best. I find myself more carefree and happier with this new positive outlook. Everything is finally falling into place. Their is only one piece to the puzzle that is not within my grasp.

The Scam

The third Korean film for me to watch is entitled, The Scam. I know it's not on my list but the synopsis of the movie sounded pretty interesting. It was a pretty decent film. On a scale from 1-5 I'd give it a 3.5. The only thing keeping it from a 4 would be the use of a lot of financial jargon in the movie that made it somewhat difficult for me to follow. All in all it was a great crime/thriller movie.

"Hyeon-su (Park Yong-ha), an unemployed, self-taught individual investor, hits the jackpot ― though at the cost of disrupting a scam by gangster-turned-financier Hwang (Park Heui-soon). Hwang, however, recognizes Hyeon-su's talent and recruits him for his team of scam artists. They prepare for a 60 billion won heist, but a bigger scam is in the making within the group."

Major Lazer

What you know about that Major Lazer?

Major Lazer is a Jamaican commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984. The US military rescued him and repurposed experimental lazers as prosthetic limbs. Since then Major Lazer has been a hired renegade soldier for a rogue government operating in secrecy underneath the watch of M5 and the CIA. His cover is that of a dancehall night club owner from Trinidad and he enlisted the help of long-time allies and uber-producers, Diplo and Switch, to produce his first LP. His true mission is to protect the world from the dark forces of evil that live just under the surface of a civilized society. He fights vampires and various monsters, parties hard, and has a rocket powered skateboard.

Mind: the part of a person responsible for thought, feelings, and intention

"Let’s innovate, create and stimulate minds." This line was written by the lovely and talented A. Willoughby.

This was an excerpt from a poem she wrote entitled "....this one needs no intro...". I found myself reading the poem repeatedly trying to imagine how she would say each line. Her poem has a powerful message but it yearns to be performed by her. When she performs a piece it comes to life. I am eagerly waiting for the day when I can hear her perform "....this one needs no intro...".

Yet, even without a performance the phrase "Let’s innovate, create and stimulate minds." speaks volumes to me. Further dissection of the phrase reveals the power of these words.

innovate: to begin or introduce something new.
create: to be the cause of
stimulate : to excite or invigorate

I look forward to the day when I can innovate, create and stimulate minds with someone....

Relationship: a romantic or passionate attachment

Browsing through my email inbox I came across a conversation that I was having with a very good friend, whom I refer to as my younger brother. It's odd that I call him my younger brother because at times he has an understanding of life, light years, beyond my own comprehension.

Within the message he had given me some sound advice pertaining to relationships. He said " i'd rather have a strained relationship than one where i have to hide."

But sometimes is it better not knowing and just stay quiet....?
Needless to say I did not take his advice and I am left wondering, what if....

Sassy: Lively and spirited; jaunty.

The second Korean film for me to watch is entitled My Sassy Girl. Which is the perfect name for this movie! I thoroughly enjoyed this film and must admit I did get a little misty eyed. I've always been a fan of romantic comedies. According to Wikipedia this is based on a ture story. This film far exceeded my expectations. I feel as if I should have saved this for last. If you have not watched this movie I highly recommend it and Jeon Ji-hyun is pretty easy on the eyes too. >________<*

Cosmopolitan : having wide international sophistication

I have a friend who is a cosmopolitan in every essence of the word. Although I have known of her for quite some time, we have only become friends within the past few months. Within these few months I have learned her taste in film and music is extremely diverse. I have never met someone quite like her. Someone who likes The Boondocks (Animated series) but favorite movie is Chungking Express. Someone who will tell me how much she digs the new Jay Z -D.O.A then tell me to listen to her new song of the week/month, La Roux - Bulletproof. She is the type of person I like to surround myself with. Individuals like her allow me to experience new things and expand my mind through their influence.

Although I am musically diverse, the knowledge I possess on films outside the US is extremely limited. She jokingly made a comment a couple of days ago, after I expressed my enjoyment in a foreign film she suggested, saying "You need to see more foreign films. Snakes on a plane aign't gonna cut if you want to be my friend." Although she meant it in jest, I took it as a challenge. I do need to expand my horizons and experience more of what the world has to offer in the film industry.

I have started a small mission to seek out foreign films that are new to me. I am starting with Korean movies because my appreciation of the movie The Host is what prompted the comment from her. I have picked out eight movies to watch that include various themes. The movies are:
1. My Sassy Girl
2. JSA (Joint Security Area)
3. TaeGukGi (The Brotherhood of War)
4. 2009: Lost Memories
5. IL Mare
6. My Tutor Friend
7. Ditto

Here's to my new friend though you may not know it. You have affected my life in a positive way.
