Nick Gentry

Artist Nick Gentry has found a muse on our throwaway culture. He paints onto discarded computer disks and cassette tapes.

No, not Yoga, it's an Exam

I took my Obstetrics final today. One hundred sixty questions about women's vaginas......ugh!

Change: to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone

Nothing new to report today. The world is the same today as I left it yesterday.
Let's focus on practicing love, tolerance, and diversity....

Grace Park

Annoyance: an unpleasant mental state that is characterized by such effects as irritation and distraction from one's conscious thinking.

YOU'RE NOT BLACK!
Three words that are always ultimately spoken to me when someone feels comfortable around me. Regardless of their race, white, asian or spanish, those three words always seem to get uttered.

Although I often let it roll off my back when people say this, It still annoys me a great deal. Their reasoning for this statement is often because of the way I talk. Evidently I don't speak "black" enough for these people, although I'm not sure what speaking "black" means. Sometimes it's because I dress a certain way or act in a way that's not "black". Whatever their reasoning behind the statement makes no difference to me. I know that I am black. When people first see me they don't hear the way I speak all they see is the color of my skin and begin to make assumptions like; He's black so he must talk and act like this....

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this blog. I suppose I'm just venting. I guess what I'm trying to say; The "YOU'RE NOT BLACK" joke is not funny to me. While I may smile and slightly laugh on the outside. I really want to punch you in the face and say "SHUT THE F@CK UP", well not really but you get the point. I've heard all the jokes a million times by a million different people. What does it mean to be "black" beyond the color of ones skin?

Star bellied sneetches....

Oh, the things we could learn from the star bellied sneetches....
Dr Seuss's books are probably some of the most amazing pieces of literature ever written. The simple format that they are written in are for the benefit of children but adults can also learn from the messages within his books. There are very few books that I can honestly say that had an impact on my life and The Star Bellied Sneetches are one of those books that had a tremendous impact.

Cidade de Deus

City of God is possibly one of my favorite movies. I remember the first time I watched this movie. I was living in some on campus apartments while I was in college at the time. City of God just so happen to come on my college movie channel. I immediately became intrigued by the movie and couldn't stop watching it. I didn't even know the name of the movie at the time. It wasn't until a few years later that I learned the name of the film and owned my own copy.

Nevertheless, City of God has been sitting on my bookshelf for several months now and I'm dying to watch it.

Another Snowy Day

We have had an absurd amount of snow this winter in Tennessee. I've lived in Tennessee all my life and I have never witnessed so much snow in my 27 years of life. I'm not complaining though. It's not like I have anywhere to go. It's only when I have somewhere to go that the snow starts to irritate me. Well here's to another snowy day in the SOUTH!

Rosario Dawson

I watched Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief tonight. The movie was so so but the highlight of the movie for me was Rosario Dawson. I never really noticed how beautiful she was until I saw her in her role as, Persephone, the wife of Hades. I find her absolutely gorgeous!

Valentine';s Day: an annual holiday held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions.

Andre 3000 - Valentine's Day
The holiday is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I in AD 496. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). The holiday first became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.
Modern Valentine's Day symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards.
