Study!

I've been studying all night and I feel like a zombie! This Medical-Surgical class is kicking my ass. I've been making low 80's on my tests so far but I need high 90's! This class involves a lot of critical thinking and often times test questions will be multiple choice with the option of 1 of 4 possible answers. Two of the answers will make no sense and the other two could possibly be the answer but we have to pick the "most right" answer. Needless to say that makes test taking rather difficult.

Anyway, sometimes during lecture I feel like I'm on an episode of House. The instructor will throw out hypothetical situations and we will have to come up with a nursing diagnosis or intervention to solve the problem.

I'm all over the place tonight and I'll probably wake up in the morning and wonder what I was babbling about on my blog last night.

Well, here's to me acing my Med-Surg exam tomorrow!

Blue Food Dye Treats Spine Injury in Rats

"The same blue food dye that gives your Gatorade its turquoise tint and turns your tongue a peculiar shade of purple might also protect your nerves in the case of spinal cord injury."

Well I'll be damned! Maybe if I keep putting enough of this commercialized junk in my body I might finally stumble across something that gives me super powers.

44 Charged by U.S. in New Jersey Corruption Sweep

I know this is old news but it's hilarious to me. 44 people charged including 3 New Jersey Mayors, 2 state assemblymen and 5 Rabbis involved in a huge corruption scandal spanning from New York to Israel, involving political bribes, extortion, money-laundering and even organ trafficking. Wow! Are there any honest people left in the world.

Taegukgi (Brotherhood)

I finally got to a film on my original list. The movie entitled Tageguki. This was an AMAZING movie! I am already a tremendous fan of historical war movies and this film allowed me to view the Korean War through the eyes of South Korean soldiers. This film depicts the horrors of war, how it tears families apart and how war changes people as seen with the transformation of Jin-tae Lee. It also shows the sacrifices families often make for one another and the strong bond shared by brothers.

"In 1950, in South Korea, the shoe-shiner Jin-tae Lee and his eighteen years old student brother Jin-seok Lee form a poor but happy family with their mother, Jin-tae's fiancé Young-shin Kim and her young sisters. Jin-tae and his mother are tough workers, who sacrifice themselves to send Jin-seok to the university. When North Korea invades the South, the family escapes to a relative's house in the country, but along their journey, Jin-seok is forced to join the army to fight in the front, and Jin-tae enlists too to protect his young brother. The commander promises Jin-tae that if he gets a medal he would release his brother, and Jin-tae becomes the braver soldier in the company. Along the bloody war between brothers, the relationship of Jin-seok with his older brother deteriorates leading to a dramatic and tragic end.

A group of Korean archeologists find a skeleton and identify it as Lee Jin-Seok. But Lee Jin-Seok is still alive and he is now an old man. It is his brother Jin-Tae who went missing in the Korean War. We travel from the present to 1950, when the Korean War started. Jin-Seok and Jin-Tae, Jin-Seok's brother, are young men who suddenly find themselves catapulted into a bloody world so different from their quiet, rural lives. As the war progresses, the war begins to poison Jin-Tae's mind. Jin-Seok is lost when he finds that he no longer knows who his brother is"

My Little Bride

I decided to venture into the Korean, romantic comedy film genre again. It appears I enjoy Korean romantic comedies the most. I came across this film after searching for more films that were similar to My Sassy Girl, a film that I thoroughly enjoyed. My Little Bride is a fantastic movie that contains all the elements of a successful romantic comedy. I particular enjoyed how the filmed handled the concept of sex and that his bride was only 15 years old. The film continually touched on that fact and allowed the viewer to not be uncomfortable. I was not disappointed by this film and I recommend it if your a fan of Korean romantic comedies.

"Boeun (Moon Geun Young) is an ordinary high school girl who worries about grades and has a crush on her school's baseball team ace, Jungwoo. One day, Boeun's grandfather orders her to marry Sangmin (Kim Rae Won) because of a pact he made with Sangmin's grandfather during the Korean War. Despite the grandchildren's opposition, they are forced to marry because of Boeun's grandfather's strong influence. Boeun's undercover married life begins: She pretends that she doesn't have a husband and starts dating Jungwoo. Boeun believes that she can manage both men and live a double life. Everything goes smoothly until Sangmin visits Boeun's school as a student teacher.

This movie is the Korean version of a 2002 Hong Kong movie called My Wife is 18 starring Charlene Choi and Ekin Cheng."
